apartments for rent in Waterloo, activities, culture, Waterloo Apartments, Apartments Waterloo, Apartments for Rent in Waterloo, Waterloo apartment rentals, Apartments in Waterloo, Apartment rentals in Waterloo, Waterloo Apartments for RentSummer is here, and with the warmer weather comes more festivals, celebrations and events all across town. Here in Waterloo, we’re host to a handful of free concerts every year. Williams and McDaniel Property Management wanted to make it easy for you to pick and choose which events you’ll take advantage of this season, so they’ve made a list of all the best free concerts taking place in Waterloo this summer.

Pinegrove Apartments (145 Lucan Avenue), named after the beautiful pine trees that surround the building, are just around the corner from one of this year’s main music venues — the Waterloo Public Square (75 King Street South). Here you’ll find fresh acoustic talent every Friday from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. for the Acoustic Noon Concert series happening all summer long. Pinegrove Apartments are just over a kilometre away from this venue, so you’re only a 15-minute walk from live, free entertainment. This year’s lineup includes everything from blues and soul, to contemporary and classic rock.

Summer Concerts in the Square is another summer concert series happening in — you guessed it — the Waterloo Public Square (again, just a 15-minute jaunt from Pinegrove Apartments). From June 8th to August 24th, swing by the Square every Monday (except August 3rd, that’s a civic holiday) to start your week off with some live music. Some of this year’s talented acts include Sandy and Sue, Adrian and Kim, Red Hot Ramble and Latin Fusion Trio.

If you have a few Sundays to spare this summer, why don’t you head down to the Waterloo Public Square for their weekly Drum Circle series? Led by Bev Gooden, this series is fun, free and interactive. All ages and experience levels are encouraged to join this exciting weekly event — whether you’re a drum expert or a first-timer!
Our preferred property management company, Williams and McDaniel, is happy to provide some fun ideas to keep you entertained this summer. Be sure to check out the City of Waterloo’s website for more upcoming events.

Start walking to get healthy

apartments for rent in Waterloo, activities, fitness, Waterloo Apartments, Apartments Waterloo, Apartments for Rent in Waterloo, Waterloo apartment rentals, Apartments in Waterloo, Apartment rentals in Waterloo, Waterloo Apartments for RentWalking allows you to get the exercise your body craves in a low-impact and relaxing manner that boasts a variety of health benefits. To give Newport Towers Apartments residents some guidance about the health benefits of walking, step-tracking tools and local walking programs in Waterloo, our preferred property management company, Williams and McDaniel, has put together an introduction to walking for your health.

Save On Gym Costs

Stretching your legs during a relaxing stroll or a more brisk power walk can save you on the monthly or annual cost of a gym membership. It is important to get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise every week and to aim for 10,000 steps per day. To keep track of your steps, you can download a variety of apps and programs, including Step Counter, Free Pedometer & Step Counter and Runtastic Pedometer.

Disease and Condition Prevention

Increase Energy and Alertness

A brisk walk is an easy, natural way to boost energy levels by increasing oxygen supply cells in the body and boosting circulation. Take time during the workday to step away from your desk and enjoy a mid-afternoon walk. Being active can have both a positive and protective effect on the brain’s processing power. Maintaining an active lifestyle and regular exercise has the potential to reduce the risk of dementia and increase blood flow to the brain.

Reduces Risk of Stroke and Strengthen Heart

Regular walking for just 30 minutes, five days a week has been shown to significantly lower the risk of heart disease and stroke. Walking lowers the levels of bad cholesterol (LDL), increases the levels of good cholesterol (HDL) and keeps blood pressure within a normal range.

Walking helps strengthen and stimulate bones and their density. Avoid fragile bones and conditions like arthritis in the future by maintaining and promoting healthy joints and movement.

Research has shown that regular walking can reduce the risk of breast, bowel and other cancers by a significant rate.

Mood Booster

Studies have shown that moderate-intensity exercises, which release “feel-good endorphins,” can be just as effective as antidepressants in some cases. Walking can be done both alone or with a group as a social activity that is relaxing and healthy.

Walk On Strong Program

Waterloo’s Walk On Strong Program is devoted to getting people walking. Walks, which range in length from 5KM to 14KM, are held every Tuesday night and Saturday morning and are free of charge. The walks are suitable for almost everybody and instruction is available if you’re interested. The 5KM walking group meets in the Waterloo Public Square near the mall’s main entrance at 6:30 p.m. every Tuesday all year long. The 14KM walking group meets in the Waterloo Public Square at 8:00 a.m. every Saturday and the 6KM walking group meets on Saturdays at 9:00 a.m. Located at 75 King Street South, Waterloo Public Square is a 13-minute drive and 32-minute transit commute from the Newport Towers Apartments.

Give your body the exercise it deserves by integrating walking into your daily routine. Located at 550 Strasburg Road, Williams and McDaniel’s Newport Towers Apartments offer residents an ideal rental option in the city of Waterloo.

School’s Out: Summer Activities for Kids

When school is out for the summer it is a good idea to plan activities, programs and events to do with the kids. This will ensure that children stay active, have fun and don’t become attached to the Happy children playing drawing and making craft in class at kindcouch or TV. Summer is a time to enjoy the outdoors, the sunny weather and being social through camps, carnivals or day trips.  Williams and McDaniel Property Management, our preferred property management company, offers Waterloo Apartments that are surrounded with summer activities and options for the kids.

 Waterloo Fun Centers:

Currently, the City of Waterloo has two fun centers open and ready to provide fun and exciting experiences to little ones. The first location is at Albert McCormick Community Centre on 500 Parkside Drive, which is only an 11-minute car ride from the apartments. RIM Park, which is the second location at 2001 University Avenue East, is a mere 13-minute walk from the Pinegrove Apartments. Each week of the program has a different theme and as a result the activities, special guests, games and crafts change weekly. Sometimes kids will have the opportunity to swim at the Swimplex or outdoor pool at the Moses Springer Community Centre Pool. Giving children the opportunity to make new friends, artistic masterpieces and participate in fun and educational activities, the Waterloo Fun Centers are a worthwhile summer option to consider. For further details and sign-up information at the centers, click here.

Waterloo Day Camps

Magic tricks, miming and performing live stunts can be extremely exciting and will give young ones something to show off to their friends. The ‘Busker Mania’ camp at the RIM Park’s Manulife Financial Sports-plex teaches kids how to do some mind-boggling tricks and eye-catching optical illusions. At the end of the week those enrolled in this camp get to perform and show off their new tricks on the center stage of the Waterloo Busker Carnival. For more science-oriented minds, the ‘Weird, Wacky and Wild’ day camp gets hands-on with messy experiments and weird games. If you are looking for a creative outlet for kids, the ‘Arts and Crafts Camp’ includes a week of learning about different art forms and creating their own priceless prices of work.  Registrations for the 2013 season began on March 7 and for additional registration dates; please visit the ‘Register for Programs’ link.

Offering up an atmosphere that children, adults and families can enjoy in the summer is the annual Kidspark Festival. This year the festival celebrates its 25th anniversary of all things kids. With hands-on fun and exciting activities that include stilts, rock climbing, arts and crafts and live entertainment, you would never guess that this event is 100-percent free.  Hosted in Victoria Park on Sunday August 18th from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., families and kids can experience a full day packed with fun summer activities.
