20-Minute Makeover

The 20-Minute Makeover event starts at 2:00 p.m. on April 22nd. Businesses, schools and churches are encouraged to take 20 minutes to clean up the litter around their property. Just 20 minutes can make a huge difference and reduce society’s environmental impact. Sponsors for this event include City of Waterloo, Litter Reduction Task Force, 105.3 Kool FM and Tim Hortons. Check out recaps of last year’s event and get inspired to reduce your waste.

How to spend Earth Hour in Waterloo

apartments for rent in Waterloo, green living, Earth Hour, Waterloo Apartments, Apartments Waterloo, Apartments for Rent in Waterloo, Waterloo apartment rentals, Apartments in Waterloo, Apartment rentals in Waterloo, Waterloo Apartments for RentIn 2007, Earth Hour was launched as part of a campaign to raise awareness about global issues and create a sustainable world. The global community was tasked with sacrificing one hour of electricity. In the first year alone, more than 2.2 million people made the pledge and turned off their lights for 60 minutes. On March 28 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., people around the world will participate in Earth Hour 2015. To keep residents of the Pinegrove Apartments occupied during their hour of darkness, our preferred property management company, Williams and McDaniel, has put together a few ideas and events that are running around Waterloo.

Gaze at the Stars or Go for a Walk

You’ll be able to catch a glimpse of the gorgeous nighttime stars once all the lights from homes, stores and buildings are turned off. Do a little astronomy research, grab your binoculars and go stargazing with a group of friends or your family. If stargazing doesn’t appeal to you, simply go for a walk around the neighbourhood. Make sure to wear reflective clothing and give the kids some glow sticks for added fun.

Scavenger Hunt

If you would prefer to stay in your house, set up an “energy-saving” scavenger hunt for the kids. Mark off areas in your apartment where energy can be saved and slightly reduced. This will keep the kids entertained and give them a good idea of how their energy-saving actions can make a difference and reduce their impact.

Prepare a No-Cook Meal

Prepare a no-cook meal in advance using local ingredients you already have in your fridge. This will ensure your tummy isn’t grumbling during Earth Hour. Serve your meal by candlelight and follow it up with some board games.

Host a Games Night

Look at Earth Hour as an opportunity to unplug and catch up with neighbours, friends and family. Host a candlelit games night or casual hang out with people you haven’t seen in a while

Shut off the lights and celebrate Earth Hour this year by enjoying and participating in some fun and unconventional activities. You’l be having so much fun that you’ll forget that Earth Hour is only one hour. Located at 145 Lucan Avenue, Williams and McDaniel’s Pinegrove Apartments offer residents an ideal rental option located a short distance from an assortment of amenities.
