Planning the perfect summer picnic in Waterloo

Waterloo Apartments, Apartments Waterloo, Apartments for Rent in Waterloo, Waterloo apartment rentals, Apartments in Waterloo, Apartment rentals in Waterloo, Waterloo Apartments for RentA great way to enjoy the summer heat, the company of family and friends and to get out of your Waterloo Apartment is by planning a picnic. It doesn’t matter if you’re eating, playing or catching up with people you haven’t seen in a while, picnics are always a good time. Sometimes planning and preparing for a picnic can be hard work, but with proper planning and ideas about what activities and recipes you’ll be serving can make things easier. If you’re looking to plan the perfect picnic this summer, our preferred property management company, Williams and McDaniel, has put together some tips, activities, recipes and even locations in the Waterloo area where Pinegrove Apartment residents can enjoy a relaxing sun-filled day with family, friends and great food.

Simplify Your Food Selection
Avoid frustration and reduce the amount of food preparation you have to do by choosing foods everyone likes. Finger foods, like sandwiches, wraps, veggies and dips are not only easier to eat, but they will also reduce the amount of dishes you’ll need to do later on. The ‘Cooking Light’ blog has a Top-Rated Picnic Recipes article that includes mouthwatering options like summer crab rolls, grilled veggie and hummus wraps and classic fudge-walnut brownies. You might feel obligated to prepare all the dishes by hand, however, ready-made items from the local bakery and deli can save you when you’re in a time crunch. Located at 760 King West, the Central Fresh Market is a three-minute drive and 16-minute walk from the Waterloo Apartments.

Organize In Advance
Spend more time enjoying the picnic and your guests and less time stressing by planning as much as you can in advance. Make a list of everything you need for the day of the picnic and keep this list in plain sight, like on a fridge or bulletin board. As you pack or purchase these items check them off the list. Keep the kids occupied while the food is being prepared by planning games and activities for them to participate in. The ‘’ blog has compiled a list of 6 Olympic Party Idea including Ping-Pong Precision Pitch, Synchronized Snack Toss and Freestyle Shake-a-thon, which are sure to keep them entertained. Pack up all the ingredients you need and head to Waterloo Park located at 50 Young Street West, which is a five-minute drive and 21-minute walk from the Pinegrove Apartments.

Remember Your Picnic Essentials
Whether it’s buns for the hot dogs, Cheetos for one of the game activities or plates and forks, having the proper ingredients will make your picnic gathering run as smoothly as ever. For your non-perishable food items use durable tote bags or weaved picnic baskets, but for items that need to be kept cold coolers or ice chests are the ideal choice. Be prepared for clean up by purchasing large garbage bags, soap and sponges and bringing them with you to the picnic site. The Elora Gorge Conservation Area features a multiuse picnic area with garbage containers and a recycling depot right on site. Located at 7400 Wellington Road 21, the Gorge is a 29-minute drive from the Waterloo apartments and offers visitors a beautiful, natural area to spend their afternoon.

Pack and Serve With Ease
By taking care when packing away your picnic goodies, you can ensure everything arrives to your destination undamaged. For softer foods that can be easily damaged, like cakes, fruits and chips, it is best to place them in Tupperware containers with lids. To keep things organized and to avoid digging through coolers and tote bags, pack food away in the order it will be eaten. The first courses should go high on top, while the last courses should be on the bottom. It is also a good idea to pre-chop and slice burger toppings or salad ingredients in advance. Take advantage of Sobeys’s in-store bakery for fresh snacks and desserts. Located at 94 Bridgeport Road East, the store is a three-minute drive and 13-minute walk from the apartments. If you’re looking for a picnic destination, Rattlesnake Point Conservation Area located at 7200 Appleby Line has five breathtaking lookout spots and areas perfect for picnicking. The Pinegrove Apartments are a 46-minute drive from the conservation area.

No-Fuss Food Safety
Transporting food can sometimes be tricky and anything that needs to be kept cold or hot should remain that way for the duration of your travel time. It is important that you never transport partially cooked food, as bacteria can develop and compromise the food. It should be either fully cooked or cooked at the picnic site.  For all those last-minute ingredients, drop by Vincenzo’s located at 150 Caroline Street South and pick up whatever else you need. The apartments are a three-minute drive and 12-minute walk from the store.

Plan the perfect picnic without stress or struggle by following these tips and tricks so that you can explore the beautiful areas that surround the apartments. Located at 145 Lucan Avenue, Williams and McDaniel’s Pinegrove Apartments are a short distance away from medical facilities, restaurants and Highway 401
